Event Details

A visit to Bombardier, the East Midlands Control Centre and a talk about the Nottingham re-signalling scheme.

The Bombardier works, on Litchurch Lane, Derby was built by the Midland Railway in the 19th century. The plant has produced rolling stock under the ownership of the Midland Railway, the LMS, British Railways, British Rail Engineering Limited (BREL), ABB, Adtranz and today, Bombardier Transportation. This 90 minute tour will see the latest rolling stock under construction and allow the opportunity to learn about the fascinating history of this famous railway location.

The second part of our visit will be to the East Midlands Control Centre, which was opened immediately south of the station alongside the Birmingham line in 2008. This new facility was built to replace the 1960s era panel boxes here and at Trent Junction (near Nottingham), plus the 1986 one at Leicester and various small manual & panel boxes elsewhere in the area. It has recently taken over the operating area covered by Nottingham signalbox.

Places are limited and booking is essential for this visit.

To reserve a place and for further information about the above or any other IRO North East Area activities, please contact Regional Secretary David Monk-Steel at ne.secretary@railwayoperators.co.uk.
