Master Class – Train Planning (Transpennine Express 2014 Timetable Change)

Greater Manchester has the most complex rail network outside London; recent years have seen huge growth in patronage, yet capacity is limited and many peak trains are overcrowded. The plans for the Northern Hub offers hope that capacity can be increased and service patterns revolutionized. However, parallel to that there will be electrification and re-Franchising. How can such challenges be met by train planners; what changes are already underway;  what will be their impact on journey times, revenue and performance and on what fundamental principles of timetable planning are the evolving plans based?

David Langton, Timetable Strategy Manager, First TransPennine Express, has over 20 years railway experience, and Chris Nutton, a Director with FTPE, will share their extensive knowledge of ‘Train Planning Principles’ with a particular focus on the first step towards the delivery of the Manchester Hub and NW electrification – the 2014 timetable. It promises to be an interesting, informative and enjoyable ‘Master Class”.
