Train Planning – An Inside Look
What goes on behind the scenes to produce a timetable? And how do you amend a timetable in response to engineering works or special events?
On Tuesday 9th April, we will be welcoming Michael Gatenby, Short Term Planning Manager and Matt Ebbs, Train Planner, Chiltern Railways, who will be giving a presentation aimed at members who would like to understand the basic principles of train planning and the approaches taken to producing short term train plans in response to engineering works or special events.
Michael and Matt will give an overview of the principles of the planning process, together with some examples of recent work, to enable members to better understand what goes on behind the scenes to produce a train plan.

Some of the topics covered in this presentation will include:

• What are the ‘Operational Rules’ (Timetable Planning Rules) and Passenger Service Requirements?
• Engineering Access Statement (EAS), Confirmed Period Possession Plan (CPPP) and Draft Period Possession Plan (DPPP)
• How do you build a service from A-B and what considerations must you make?
• …and much more!
