The IRO South East Area is delighted to announce its second and long-awaited foreign visit since 2007; we will be visiting Paris from Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th September 2016. France has the second largest railway network in Europe and conveys 83.9 billion passenger kilometres, compared to Britain’s 62.9 billion. Our visit will concentrate on Parisian-based railway operations and we have put together the following schedule over the course of the weekend:

Friday 23rd September

Depart London St. Pancras at 07.01 on Eurostar 9004, arriving into Paris at 10.17 – or, if you using alternative modes, please meet at Gare du Nord Station by 10.30
AM – The Deputy Director of Gare du Nord, Lauren Kahn, will give us a tour of the station.
PM –  Visit SNCF HQ, where we will be briefed on their SNCF Voyages, Intercity and Ouigo operations and their Yield Management strategy.

Saturday 24th September
AM – Keolis –  The largest private sector French transport group, with extensive operations in France. Providing services in many cities, such as Bordeaux, Brest, Lyon and others.
PM -Transdev –  We’ll meet Transdev’s France Director, who has prior experience of their Asian activities. He will talk to us about their operations in Germany, Asia and urban French.
Evening we suggest for the group to go for dinner.

Sunday 25th September
AM – We will visit SNCF’s National Operations Centre near Gare du Nord.
Late AM – A visit to Eurostar’s Production department for a ‘behind the scenes’ look at how the international operator  works at Gare du Nord.
We will look to be finished in readiness for a Eurostar departure from Paris Gare du Nord of 14.13 (train 9035, arriving into London St. Pancras at 15.30).

Travel and Accommodation;

Delegates are to arrange their own travel to and from Paris and accomodation. Suggested accommodation details will be sent out to confirmed delegates but as a guideline, accommodation is currently priced from around £80.00 per night per person near Gare du Nord. For those wishing to travel by Eurostar who are not in possession of a Staff FIP Pass, Eurostar fares are currently around £100 return. Please note that estimated costs are, of course, subject to change.

Places on the trip will be limited and will be confirmed by 20th August to allow delegates to start making travel and accommodation arrangements. To find out more or to book your place, please email se.events@railwayoperators.co.uk.”
