A talk by Paul Boyle, Head of ERTMS, London  North Eastern Railway

The North East Area Council welcomes Paul Boyle, Head of ERTMS, London North Eastern Railway, to come and talk to members about the challenges & benefits of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) and the Digital Railway.

The East Coast Main Line is being transformed, using digital train control technology to deliver a better, more dynamic and reliable service.  The East Coast Digital Programme is a once in a generation opportunity to transform how the railway works for passengers and freight users.  Working in partnership between Network Rail, Train Operators and the Government, the programme will upgrade the train control systems to create a more dynamic, more reliable, and more flexible railway.  ERTMS is being trialled currently in the UK and will become the standard system when renewals fall due. Part of the business case for its introduction is based on improvements to capacity compared with Multiple Aspect signalling.

This event will be of particular relevance to those who are interested in train signalling and control, as well as those who are studying on one of the IRO courses.  Light refreshments will be available, kindly supplied by Tracsis.

Please note that you should aim for a prompt arrival, as the reception area at the Academy will not be manned after 17:30hrs.

No need to book, but please email ne.events@railwayoperators.co.uk if you have any dietary or other requirements.  Members are requested to bring along with them their membership cards.
