Event Details
The Aberdeen-Inverness Improvement Project is a Scottish Government-funded scheme to improve journey times and increase capacity on this important intercity route. Phase 1 of the project has invested over £300m in Scotland’s railway over the last 3 years. The west end of the project (Inverness- Elgin) was completed in October 2017 involving a new fully accessible station at Forres on a re-aligned loop, extended platforms at Elgin and upgraded signalling between Inverness and Keith. During two summer closures in 2018 &19 the 14 miles between Aberdeen (Kittybrewster) and Inverurie were re-doubled with the signalling of that section also transferring to Inverness.
The project will provide a day-time hourly service between Inverness and Elgin and at least a half hourly service between Aberdeen and Inverurie by the end of 2019, with an increase in end-to-end services to an hourly frequency in the longer term.
The majority of Aberdeen to Inverness services will formed of High-Speed Trains providing 1,400 additional seat each day, the introduction of half hourly all-day services between Aberdeen & Inverurie providing 3,000 additional seats each day plus additional Elgin-Aberdeen early morning and late evening services.
Refreshments will be provided.
