Event Details

Preston Power Signal Box has been in operation since 1973, and controls a major portion of the West Coast Main Line, from Euxton Junction to a point just North of Carnforth, interfacing with similar PSB’s at Warrington in the South, and Carlise to the North. In addition, Preston PSB interfaces with ‘fringe’ signal boxes on each of the various routes to the East and West of the WCML, within its area of responsibility, thereby controlling a total of over 250 route miles.

Members will be able to see Signaling staff operate the 76 foot long console, which gives them control over Signals, Points, and Level Crossings etc., many miles from the Signal Box, enabling relevant route-setting, and train regulation decisions to be made. By also explaining the supporting functions, on the operating floor, our hosts will clearly demonstrate the major role this installation plays in the safe and efficient operation of this most important route.

Transport will be available for Members from Preston Station to the Power Signal Box, where refreshments will be provided, from 17.30 hrs. Due to time and space considerations, our party requires to be limited to 16.
