What is ‘Recognition of Prior Learning’ (RPL)?.

RPL makes your work and life experience count. You may be able to enter the programme at a more advanced level, even if you don’t have all the necessary previous qualifications as you can convert your work experience into academic credit points.

RPL ensures that you are studying at the right level and that you gain the credit you deserve. We understand that many railway professionals have worked in the industry since leaving school, so we believe it is important that you are able to use the vast industry experience you might have gained to ensure you begin studying at the most appropriate level.

Can I use RPL?

Our academic partner, Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU), will inform you if you are able to use RPL during the application process.

GCU use RPL to assess individuals on their work based experience, so that ‘on the job’ skills and knowledge can be translated into academic credits. Up to 50% of total course credits can be awarded to any individual at any given time. This process can significantly accelerate your learning and make academic achievement faster and more accessible.

For more information on RPL please get contact us by emailing learning@railwayoperators.co.uk, or telephone 03333 440523 (etx. 203).
