North West & Wales Area members and their families recently had their Annual Family Day Out in Liverpool. First port of call was the Museum of Liverpool to view, among other exhibits, a presentation relating to the former Liverpool Overhead Railway. The party then made their way to Pier Head, in order to board a Mersey Ferry for a River Explorer Tour, during which the sights and history of the Mersey were detailed for those on board.

On arrival at Woodside, Birkenhead, the party then visited the U-Boat Story, which details the history, reclamation and exhibition of a sunken German U-Boat. From here, the party made their way to the Wirral Transport Museum, where Trams, Buses, and motor vehicles of all types, are displayed. In addition to a model railway, there is also a considerable collection of memorabilia from all modes of transport. At the close of our visit, our party was transported back to Woodside Ferry Terminal by vintage Omnibus.

Having returned to Liverpool, our party visited Albert Dock, before arriving at Jamie Oliver’s Italian restaurant for a very pleasant meal. During this meal, our party was able to see part of the Giant Puppet Parade, as it passed through Liverpool One, which rounded the day off nicely.
